Ewon in Practice: Commissioning a Machine on Réunion Island from an Office in Jablonné

Kepware Server Case Study at KASKO

Are you considering remote access to machines and equipment, whether they operate on the other side of the world or simply in another building at your facility? Then choose a simple, reliable and secure connection with encrypted communication to all your routers, just like machine manufacturer LUX.

For several years, the company has been connecting remotely to the machines it manufactures through industrial Ewon routers and the Talk2M cloud platform, all from a single, easy-to-use dashboard.

Ewon Cosy+ and Flexy RoutersLUX and LUX-PTZ, based in Jablonné nad Orlicí, are leading specialists in the design and manufacture of special-purpose machines, robotic production lines, measuring equipment, balers and container compactors for waste management. They provide automation solutions that combine technical precision with sustainability. Their machines are used in the automotive and electrical engineering industries worldwide. Their waste-processing equipment also helps ensure the smooth operation of large retail chains and other companies.

A Project in a Tropical Paradise Started LUX’s Remote-Access Journey

When a French customer ordered a waste-management compactor from LUX for Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean, it was clear that remote access would be essential. At the time, Ewon industrial routers offered a fast and user-friendly solution, as well as the assurance of a secure VPN connection. The system has now been operating reliably on the other side of the world for ten years. The technical knowledge available locally is limited, so without remote access to the machine, servicing would not be possible. “Remote access proved valuable as early as the commissioning stage,” recalls software programmer Miroslav Fiedler. “The French company assembled the machine themselves, but thanks to Ewon, we were able to help them get it running remotely, directly from our office.”

Remote Access via Ewon Is Now Standard

Today, LUX installs an Ewon router in practically every larger machine or production line it manufactures. At first, customers did not understand why they should pay extra for remote access. In practice, however, they quickly recognised its benefits. “Remote access is valuable right from the beginning, during machine commissioning. The customer’s trained operators do not yet have enough experience, so they appreciate being able to contact us and receive support whenever necessary. “The same applies when customers suspect that something is not working correctly. We can carry out diagnostics very quickly and often solve the problem without travelling to the site. This saves both time and money. At the same time, we provide technical support for the service team,” explains Miroslav Fiedler.

“We mainly use the Ewon Cosy+ WiFi and Ewon Cosy+ 4G models, particularly when the customer does not have separate internal and guest networks. We select the model according to the specific requirements and operating conditions.”

They Can Connect to Machines from a Mobile Phone

The Talk2M cloud platform, which connects Ewon routers with remote users, offers several service levels. These differ in areas such as the number of simultaneous connections, available data services, the number of SMS messages and visualisation options.

LUX uses a Talk2M Free account, which allows the company to connect an unlimited number of routers free of charge. Because LUX regularly purchases routers for newly manufactured machines, the free service is automatically extended. Each new Ewon router added to the LUX account provides another year of free access to the service.

“What I particularly appreciate about the Talk2M platform is its clarity and user-friendliness. I can connect to all our machines from a single interface and view equipment status and logs in real time. I also frequently access the platform directly from my mobile phone when I am working in the field,” adds the programmer.

Helping Customers Within Minutes, Not Hours

LUX has recently completed a major project for a prominent retail chain. “We supplied balers to all of the chain’s supermarkets throughout the Czech Republic. These machines are relatively important for the smooth operation of such large stores. Even half a day of downtime can block aisles in areas with limited storage space. That is why operators and maintenance teams appreciate the fact that remote access allows us to help them restart the machine quickly or immediately identify where the problem is and what needs to be fixed,” concludes Miroslav Fiedler.

For machine and equipment manufacturers, remote access provides:

  • Rapid problem diagnostics
  • Shorter service response times compared with competitors
  • Service cost reductions of tens of percent by eliminating unnecessary site visits
  • Simpler and faster service support
  • Lower travel costs
