PROFIBUS connectors

Reliable PROFIBUS network connections

PROFIBUS Connectors

Choose proven connectors for connecting PROFIBUS cables to stations, PLCs, remote I/O modules and other network components. We offer connectors with or without a PG port, adjustable 35° or 90° cable outlets, straight 180° versions, connectors with LED diagnostics and robust M12 connectors.

  • With or without a PG port
  • 35°, 90° or 180° cable outlet
  • Screw connection for A/B wires
  • Versions with LED diagnostics
  • B-coded M12 connectors
Connectors for industrial PROFIBUS networks
Which PROFIBUS connector should you choose and what is a PG port used for?

Choose a connector according to the connection type, available space and application

Most common design

9-pin PROFIBUS connector

The standard connector for a PROFIBUS DP or MPI port. The cable is connected using screw terminals, providing a firm and reliable long-term connection for the A and B conductors.

  • versions with or without a PG port,
  • 35°, 90° or 180° cable outlet,
  • integrated ON/OFF terminating resistor,
  • metallised housing to reduce interference.
Adjustable cable outlet

Connectors with a 35° or 90° angle

The adjustable outlet allows the cable direction to be adapted to the available space in the control cabinet or to the connector position on the device. One type can therefore replace several fixed-angle versions.

  • less mechanical stress on the connected cable,
  • better use of space in the control cabinet,
  • simpler stocking of replacement connectors,
  • versions with or without a PG port.
Quick visual check

Connectors with LED diagnostics

Integrated LEDs provide basic visual information about communication and connection status. They help maintenance personnel perform an initial network check directly at the device.

  • faster orientation when identifying a problem,
  • version with a PG diagnostic port,
  • screw connection for the conductors,
  • 90° cable outlet.
Harsh environments

M12 PROFIBUS connectors

M12 connectors are used for devices installed outside control cabinets or in environments with greater mechanical protection requirements. PROFIBUS uses B coding.

  • male and female versions,
  • robust metal housing,
  • suitable for industrial installations,
  • reliable field connection.
Connector with PG port

The PG port allows a programming adapter or diagnostic tester to be connected without disconnecting the cable. It is particularly useful for maintenance, service and regular network measurements with ProfiTrace.

Connector without PG port

A more compact version for locations where an additional diagnostic or programming connection is not required. It can be used where a measuring point is available elsewhere in the segment.

How should you choose a PROFIBUS connector?

Port type – 9-pin D-sub or M12
Need for a diagnostic PG port
Cable outlet direction and angle
Available space around the device
Requirement for LED diagnostics
Position at the beginning, inside or end of the network
Correct terminating resistor setting:
The connector at the beginning or end of a segment must have its terminating resistor switched ON. A connector inside the segment, with both an incoming and outgoing cable, must have termination switched OFF.
Why do we recommend connectors with a PG port?
A diagnostic port makes preventive measurement and troubleshooting easier because the technician can connect a tester without disconnecting a running network. Accessible measuring points considerably simplify future servicing of the complete production line.

PROFIBUS: 3 Sins and 10 Tips

PROFIBUS: 3 Sins and 10 Tips

The PROFIBUS industrial bus is highly tolerant and will forgive many faults. But if a critical fault occurs—or several small ones accumulate—you will definitely notice. That’s why this aging industrial network deserves attention. Even if faults on your network are still rare, they will gradually accumulate. What do our technicians recommend? What are their 10 tips for maintaining PROFIBUS?

Quality PROFIBUS connectors are important

PROFIBUS connectors are part and parcel of every network. Their quality and ease of installation are factors that contribute enormously to a healthy network. We're the only company offering special Canon PROFIBUS connectors with multi-angle cable outlet (the connector's cable outlet can be at 35° or 90° to the device's PROFIBUS port). These connectors allow you to set the cable outlet direction to meet your needs. Apart from that, they feature screw terminals, which means that A and B wires are screwed in using terminal blocks. We sell connectors with PG port for the same price as those without it. We're in favour of PG port as it enables PROFIBUS diagnostics. That's why we actively encourage our customers to buy connectors with this port.
