Industrial protocol converters and gateways

Connect devices using different industrial protocols

ADFweb communication converters and gateways provide bidirectional data exchange between PLCs, robots, drives, measuring devices, SCADA and IT systems without the need to develop custom communication software.

How do you choose the right communication gateway?

Use the filters below to select the protocol on the first and second side of the gateway. Before ordering, also verify the communication role of each device.

Step 1Select the source protocol

Identify the protocol of the device from which you want to read data, for example PROFIBUS, PROFINET, CAN or S7comm.

Step 2Select the target protocol

Choose the system to which the data should be transferred, for example Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, Ethernet, MQTT or OPC UA.

Step 3Verify the Master, Slave, Client or Server role

The same pair of protocols may require a different gateway depending on which device initiates communication.

Not sure which exact gateway you need?

Send us the device types, protocols, communication roles and required direction of data exchange. We will recommend a specific gateway.

More details: how communication gateways work and what to verify before selection

A gateway translates communication between two different systems

The gateway receives data in one industrial protocol, converts its meaning and makes it available to another device using a protocol it understands. This makes it possible to connect an older machine to a new PLC, a PROFIBUS network to PROFINET, or production equipment to a database, SCADA system or cloud application.

Gateway or simple interface converter?

A simple converter changes the physical interface. A protocol gateway also converts the data structure, addressing and meaning of the transferred data.

The communication role is essential

A Master or Client usually initiates communication, while a Slave or Server responds. The roles must match the devices on both sides of the gateway.

Connecting old and new technologies

A gateway allows you to keep a functional legacy device and connect it to a new PLC, Ethernet network, SCADA system or data-acquisition solution.

Frequently asked questions about communication gateways

Is it enough to know only the two protocols we want to connect?

Not always. You should also verify the Master/Slave or Client/Server roles, the number of connected devices, communication speed and the volume of data transferred.

Do we need to modify the PLC program because of the gateway?

It depends on the application. The gateway is configured using the supplied software, but the PLC may require addresses, data areas or communication connections to be configured.

What should we do if the required gateway is not listed in the e-shop?

The e-shop contains only part of the extensive ADFweb range. Send us the product code from the manufacturer's catalogue or a description of the devices you need to connect, and we will prepare an offer.
