How to update the firmware on Ewon routers COSY and FLEXY

An overview of the changes in the individual firmware versions for Ewon Flexy 205 and Cosy 131 can be found in the release notes.

New important features or fixes are also announced via the news section.

Updating Ewon firmware with eBuddy

eBuddy is a special application to facilitate the management of Ewon modems. We consider upgrading with eBuddy the best solution if you have one or several modems that are reachable either locally or via a Talk2M connection.

An internet connection is required so that eBuddy can download the latest firmware version from the servers.

Updates with eBuddy and local LAN

All reachable Ewons are displayed automatically by eBuddy or manually via the Refresh button in its modem list.

The firmware update wizard can then be started using the Tools and Update buttons or by right-clicking on the appropriate Ewon modem and pressing Update Firmware.

Updates with eBuddy and remote connection via Talk2M cloud

In case your Ewons are not reachable locally but are connected to the Talk2M service, you can also use eBuddy to update the firmware of these modems.

To update a remote modem, you need to connect to it using the desktop version of the eCatcher software. You can then run the firmware update wizard again using the Tools and Update buttons. Or right click on the appropriate Ewon modem and press Update Firmware.

Update Ewon firmware via USB or SD card

Ewon modems can also be updated manually in several different ways in different situations:

  • By transferring the firmware to an FTP server using your favorite FTP client software,
  • by inserting an SD card or USB flash drive containing the firmware into your Ewon,
  • using eBuddy, where you need to have the appropriate firmware version stored on your computer.

We consider manual upgrade to be the best solution in these cases.

  • Need to upgrade multiple Ewons to the same version -> SD card or USB
  • Need to upgrade Ewon(s) with an outdated version without having to upgrade to every major version (for example from v11 directly to v14) -> SD card or USB
  • Firmware upgrade will be performed by a person with little or no experience with Ewon modems -> SD card or USB
  • Need to upgrade to a firmware version that is not the latest (for example from v14.0s0 to 14.2s0.) -> FTP connection.
