How to update the firmware on Ewon COSY and eWON Flexy routers

For each product, you will always find in the section Support and downloads version firmware, manuals i software eCatcher and eBuddy available for download.

Updating Ewon firmware using the eBuddy programme

eBuddy is a specialised application designed to simplify the management of Ewon modems. We consider upgrading via eBuddy to be the best solution if you have one or more modems that are accessible either locally or via a Talk2M connection.

An internet connection is required so that eBuddy can download the latest firmware version from the servers.

Updates via eBuddy over a local area network (LAN)

eBuddy displays all accessible Ewon devices automatically or manually via the Refresh button in its list of modems.

You can then launch the firmware update wizard by selecting ‘Tools’ and ‘Update’, or by right-clicking on the relevant Ewon modem and by pressing ‘Update Firmware’.

Updates via eBuddy using a remote internet connection and the Talk2M cloud

If your Ewon devices are not accessible locally but are connected to the Talk2M service, you can also use eBuddy to update the firmware on these modems.

To update a remote modem, you need to connect to it using the desktop version of the eCatcher software. You can then launch the firmware update wizard again by clicking the ‘Tools’ and ‘Update’ buttons. Alternatively, right-click on the relevant Ewon modem and select ‘Update Firmware’.

Updating Ewon firmware via USB or SD card

Ewon modems can also be updated manually, in various situations and in several different ways:

• by transferring the firmware to an FTP server using your favourite FTP client software,
• by inserting an SD card or USB flash drive containing the firmware into your Ewon,
• using eBuddy, where you need to have the relevant firmware version saved on your computer.

We consider a manual upgrade to be the best solution in these cases.

• Do you need to update a large number of Ewon devices to the same version? -> SD card or USB
• Do you need to update Ewon devices running an outdated version without having to update to every major version (for example, from version v11 directly to v14)? -> SD card or USB
• The firmware upgrade will be carried out by a person with little or no experience of Ewon modems -> SD card or USB
• You need to upgrade to a firmware version that is not the latest (for example, from v14.0s0 to 14.2s0.) -> FTP connection.
