Devices behind the router
| Area | What to prepare and check |
|---|---|
| Internet connection | Both the router and the computer establish an outward connection to Talk2M. For standard access via Talk2M, it is not necessary to configure inbound port forwarding to the production network. |
| Firewall and proxy | For Talk2M, allow the necessary outbound communication in accordance with the current HMS list. The basis is TCP 443; HMS also recommends UDP 1194. The range of domains and any exceptions must be approved by the IT administrator. |
| DNS, time and certificates | Ensure that device names are translated correctly and that the device time is accurate. If the network performs TLS/SSL inspection, check its impact on Talk2M certificate verification. Limit any exception to the necessary communication. |
| Users and permissions | Use personal accounts, multi-factor authentication and access only the devices you need. Advanced organisation using Pools and Groups requires a suitable Talk2M tariff. |
| Approval and operation | Designate an account administrator, set out rules for external servicing, define the scope of permitted intervention, establish record-keeping procedures and outline the process for revoking access. Before handover, verify the connection and permission restrictions. |

Safe connection and remote service guidelines
Address security throughout the entire setup: from Talk2M accounts via the router to the separation of production and corporate networks. Our article provides examples using Ewon routers and W&T firewalls, and also covers permissions and corporate procedures.
Secure remote access: Ewon, Talk2M and W&T firewalls
The specific proposal is based on operational requirements and a risk assessment. Installing the router alone does not ensure that the organisation’s obligations are met.
