24 V technology remains operational during a power failure
The UPSI-2406IP-12U helps protect industrial computers, controllers, communication devices, sensors, measuring equipment, and other equipment powered from a 24 VDC branch against power failures and voltage dips.
When input voltage falls below a specified threshold, the UPS switches to backup mode in less than 600 µs. In this mode, it provides regulated output voltage of approximately 23.5 VDC. At the nominal current of 6 A, it therefore supplies approximately 140 W in backup mode.

During a power failure or significant input-power drop, the UPS switches very quickly to the integrated battery and continues supplying the connected equipment.
The UPS is designed for a continuous output current of 6 A. The 144 W designation corresponds to its power class with 24 V supply; in backup mode at 23.5 VDC, nominal power is approximately 140 W.
The UPS can pass information about a power failure to a connected computer or control system, enabling a subsequent response such as safe shutdown.

Rugged design for machinery, outdoor installations, and mobile equipment
The UPSI-2406IP-12U is intended for applications in which a conventional control-cabinet backup power supply does not provide sufficient protection against environmental influences. The aluminium enclosure with IP65/IP67 protection safeguards electronics and the integrated battery from dust, dirt, water jets, and, when conditions are met, temporary immersion.
The UPS operates at ambient temperatures of −20 to +50 °C. Its design has been tested for vibration according to DIN EN 60068-2-6 and mechanical shock according to DIN EN 60068-2-27. A pressure-equalisation element helps balance pressure differences and limit condensation formation inside the sealed enclosure.
The sealed design enables use of the power supply in dusty and humid environments as well as suitable outdoor applications.
The mechanical design is also suitable for applications in which equipment may be exposed to vibration or shock, for example on machinery or mobile equipment.
Pre-installed metal brackets enable the UPS to be attached to a machine, panel, wall, or another suitable solid surface without requiring a DIN rail.
LiFePO₄: long lifetime and enough time for safe shutdown
The integrated BP-LFP-1325S lithium iron phosphate LiFePO₄ battery has a capacity of 2.5 Ah / 33 Wh. UPS electronics and the battery-management system handle charging and cell protection.
At the nominal output current of 6 A, the UPS provides approximately 17 minutes of backup time at +25 °C. Backup time increases significantly at lower current draw. Actual time is affected by load, temperature, battery condition, and UPS settings.
LiFePO₄ technology offers high cycle life, and the manufacturer specifies up to 6,000 charge and discharge cycles for this product range. This helps reduce the frequency of battery replacement and related service interventions.

Monitoring, shutdown, and restart
UPS management and controlled shutdown of an industrial computer
After USB connection, a supported operating system can recognise the UPS as a HID device without requiring a dedicated communication driver. UPS Gen² Configuration Software is used for detailed configuration, while UPScom software is intended for monitoring, notifications, and controlled computer shutdown.
UPS and battery status can be monitored, power-failure behaviour, shutdown delay, or maximum backup time can be configured, and a custom script or program can be run before the computer is shut down.
The UPS monitors the consumption of the connected device. If it falls below a configured limit after controlled shutdown, the UPS can recognise that the connected computer has already stopped operating. This enables proper completion of backup mode and saves battery energy.
During a power failure, a computer can save data, close running applications, and perform a controlled shutdown before the UPS disconnects the output.
The Reboot function enables the UPS output to be temporarily disabled after controlled computer shutdown is complete and reactivated after the configured time. Automatic IPC startup must also be supported by the computer itself and its settings.
Power supply and installation
The UPS is connected between a 24 VDC power supply and the backed-up equipment. The input voltage operating range is 22.8–30 VDC.
For full functionality at maximum nominal load, an upstream power supply of approximately 24 V / 7.5 A, or approximately 180 W, is required. Power supply must meet SELV or PELV requirements, and the power supply unit must not operate in constant-current mode.
The UPS enclosure measures 140 × 140 × 90 mm without connectors and mounting brackets. To dissipate generated heat, sufficient space must be left around the enclosure; the manual recommends at least 100 mm in all directions from adjacent equipment.
To maintain IP65/IP67 protection, the input, output, and used communication cables must be connected correctly. If the multifunction interface is not used, it must be closed with a suitable protective cap.

Above the nominal 6 A, the UPS can statically supply 6.3 A. Dynamically, it can handle approximately 6.4–7.5 A for a maximum of 3 s. Use the nominal 6 A for continuous operation.
For very short inrush loads, the UPS can supply current of up to 30 A for approximately 5 ms.
At maximum charging current, the specified battery charging time is approximately 38 minutes. When simultaneously powering a load, available charging power changes and the charging time can increase.
Protection of the UPS and connected equipment
The UPSI-2406IP-12U has output overcurrent and short-circuit protection as well as input reverse-polarity protection when connecting a switched-off device. In the event of a short circuit, the output is disconnected in less than 5 ms.
Reverse-polarity protection does not apply when the UPS is already operating from the battery and input voltage with reverse polarity is subsequently connected. Therefore, polarity must always be verified before connection.
When permitted output current is exceeded, the UPS disconnects the output. The disconnection time depends on the magnitude of the overcurrent.
In the event of a short circuit, the output is disconnected quickly. During normal operation, the UPS may subsequently attempt to restore the output; in backup mode, no automatic attempt takes place.
The electronics monitor battery undervoltage and other operating conditions to prevent unnecessary deep discharge.

Frequently asked questions about the rugged Bicker UPSI-2406IP-12U backup power supply
Basic use and backup power
What is the Bicker UPSI-2406IP-12U?
The UPSI-2406IP-12U is a rugged industrial DC/DC UPS backup power supply for equipment powered by 24 VDC. It has an integrated 33 Wh LiFePO₄ battery, a 24 VDC / 6 A output, and an aluminium enclosure with IP65/IP67 protection for outdoor and demanding industrial applications.
Is a separate 24 V power supply required upstream of the UPS?
Yes. The UPSI-2406IP-12U is a DC/DC UPS, not an AC/DC mains power supply. It requires an external 24 VDC power supply at its input; for full-load operation, the manufacturer recommends a SELV or PELV power supply rated at least 24 VDC / 7.5 A, approximately 180 W, without constant-current mode.
How does a DC UPS work in an industrial application?
In normal mode, the UPS passes the 24 VDC input voltage to the output, simultaneously charges the integrated battery, and monitors input power status. If the input voltage drops or fails, it automatically switches to backup mode and powers the connected 24 VDC load from the LiFePO₄ battery.
What is the difference between the UPSI-2406IP-26U, UPSI-2406IP-12U, and UPSI-1208IP-11U?
All three models are rugged industrial DC UPS units with IP65/IP67 enclosures, integrated LiFePO₄ batteries, connection to an external DC power supply, and suitability for outdoor or demanding industrial applications.
- UPSI-2406IP-26U: 24 VDC / 6 A / 144 W, 99 Wh battery. It is suitable for 24 VDC applications that require longer backup time.
- UPSI-2406IP-12U: 24 VDC / 6 A / 144 W, 33 Wh battery and an approximate backup time of 17 min at nominal current and +25 °C. It is suitable where a shorter power-failure bridge is sufficient.
- UPSI-1208IP-11U: 12 VDC / 8 A / 96 W, 25 Wh battery and an approximate backup time of 11 min 30 s at nominal current and +25 °C. It is intended for equipment powered by 12 VDC, not for 24 VDC loads.
For 24 VDC equipment, the required backup time is particularly important: the UPSI-2406IP-26U has three times the battery energy of the UPSI-2406IP-12U, 99 Wh compared with 33 Wh. The UPSI-1208IP-11U is selected when the powered application is designed for 12 VDC.
What is the output voltage during a power failure?
In normal mode, output voltage is in the range of 24–23.6 VDC depending on the load. In backup mode, the UPS provides regulated voltage of approximately 23.5 VDC, specifically within the range of 23.6–23.3 VDC depending on the load.
How quickly does the UPS switch to backup mode?
The switch from normal to backup mode takes less than 600 µs. The UPS therefore bridges short power failures or drops in the 24 VDC input power supply without interrupting load power.
Battery and backup time
How long can the UPS power connected equipment?
Backup time depends on actual consumption, ambient temperature, battery condition, and UPS settings. At the full load of 24 VDC / 6 A, the manufacturer specifies an approximate backup time of 17 min at +25 °C.
Backup time increases at lower current draw. The figure must therefore always be assessed according to the specific power consumption of the connected device.
Which battery is integrated in the UPS?
The UPS contains an integrated BP-LFP-1325S LiFePO₄ battery with a nominal capacity of 2.5 Ah / 33 Wh. LiFePO₄ technology is suitable for long-term operation and has high cycle life.
How long does battery charging take?
At maximum charging current, the approximate charging time is 38 min. Actual time depends on input voltage, current output load, battery discharge level, and ambient temperature.
Does the UPS have a Battery Start function?
No. The Battery Start function is not available for the UPSI-IP-1 series, including the UPSI-2406IP-12U. The UPS is put into operation by connecting an external 24 VDC power supply.
What happens when the battery is discharged?
The UPS protects the battery against deep discharge. Once the discharge threshold is reached, it disconnects the output to prevent battery damage. After operation in backup mode, the manufacturer recommends recharging the battery again as soon as possible.
Ruggedness, installation, and cabling
Is the UPS suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. The UPS is intended for indoor and outdoor use in demanding conditions. It has an aluminium enclosure with IP65/IP67 protection, an operating range of −20 to +50 °C, and is tested for vibration and shock according to DIN EN 60068-2-6 and DIN EN 60068-2-27.
What does IP65/IP67 protection mean?
IP65 provides protection against dust and water jets from all directions. IP67 means protection during temporary immersion up to 1 m deep for no more than 30 min. The UPS is not intended for permanent operation under water.
Is IP65/IP67 protection ensured without a connected USB cable?
Not automatically. Full protection is ensured only when the input, output, and USB cables are connected correctly. If you do not use the USB interface, it must be fitted with a suitable PSZ-1104 protective cap, which is not included in the delivery.
How is the UPS mounted?
The UPS is mounted to a wall or another solid surface using pre-installed mounting brackets. For proper cooling, the manufacturer recommends vertical or horizontal mounting on a suitable surface and leaving at least 100 mm of free space around the enclosure.
Which cables are included in the delivery?
The delivery includes a 3 m input cable and a 3 m output cable with open ends; each has 2 × 2.5 mm² power conductors and a 2.5 mm² functional-earth FE conductor. A 3 m USB cable with a USB Type-A connector is also included.
The manufacturer does not recommend extending the power cables, because voltage drop on excessively long cabling can cause an unintended switch to backup mode.
Power, signalling, and communication
What continuous power can the UPS supply?
The nominal output current is 6 A, which corresponds to 144 W at nominal 24 VDC voltage. Actual power at the enclosure output can vary slightly depending on load and voltage drop. System design must also consider battery-charging consumption and short-term current peaks of the connected device.
Can the UPS handle a short-term current peak?
Yes. In normal mode, the UPS can temporarily provide 6.4 to 7.5 A for a maximum of 3 s, corresponding to 150 to 176 W. This power boost is not intended for continuous load.
How does the UPS protect itself and the connected load?
The UPS has input reverse-polarity protection during commissioning and output protection against overcurrent and short circuit. In the event of a short circuit, it disconnects the output in less than 5 ms. In normal mode, it subsequently performs automatic attempts to restore operation.
However, a short circuit directly at the UPS output can damage the device. Route and secure the output cable so that insulation cannot be damaged, conductors cannot come loose, and V+ and V− conductors cannot contact each other. Use a suitable cable cross-section according to cable length and connected-load current draw.
How does the UPS indicate its operating status?
Status is indicated by a green LED. It remains continuously illuminated when input voltage is present; when operating from the battery, it flashes at 1 Hz. Fast flashing warns of, for example, overcurrent, short circuit, too low an output load, or an internal fault.
Can the UPS be connected to an IPC or control system?
Yes. The multifunction interface enables USB communication with HID UPS and VCOM support. Most operating systems can therefore recognise the UPS without an additional driver. RS232 or a configurable potential-free relay output for Power Fail or alarm signalling is also available.
How can controlled IPC shutdown be achieved?
Via USB, the UPS can pass power-failure information to the operating system. UPScom software is available for advanced functions, such as running a script before shutdown, configuring maximum backup time, monitoring, and automatic restart after power is restored.
