Your technology keeps running during a power failure
The UPSI-1208IP-11U helps protect industrial computers, controllers, network equipment and measuring instruments against failures, voltage drops and fluctuations in the 12 VDC power supply. When the input voltage falls below the specified threshold, it switches to backup mode in less than 600 µs and powers the connected device from its integrated battery. In backup mode, it maintains a regulated output voltage of approximately 12 VDC.

In the event of an input voltage drop or power failure, the UPS switches very quickly to the integrated battery and continues supplying the connected equipment.
The UPS powers connected equipment with a rated current of 8 A and provides approximately 96 W of power.
The UPS can send information about a power failure to a connected computer or control system, enabling a follow-up response such as a safe shutdown.

Rugged design for machinery, outdoor installations and demanding operations
The UPSI-1208IP-11U is designed for 12 V equipment that requires backup power even in environments where a standard control-cabinet UPS is insufficient. Its robust aluminium housing with IP65/IP67 protection safeguards the electronics and battery against dust, dirt, water jets and, when the requirements are met, temporary immersion.
The UPS operates at ambient temperatures from −20 to +50 °C. The design has been tested for vibration in accordance with DIN EN 60068-2-6 and mechanical shock in accordance with DIN EN 60068-2-27. A pressure-equalisation element helps reduce condensation inside the enclosure.
The sealed design protects the electronics and battery against dust and water and enables the UPS to be used indoors and outdoors.
The mechanical design is suitable for more demanding industrial and mobile applications where the equipment may be exposed to vibration or shock.
Pre-installed metal brackets allow mounting on a machine, panel, wall or another suitable surface without the need for DIN-rail installation.
LiFePO₄: long service life and sufficient time for a safe shutdown
The integrated lithium iron phosphate LiFePO₄ battery has a capacity of 2.5 Ah / 25 Wh and supports up to 6,000 charge and discharge cycles. An electronic BMS battery-management system takes care of charging and cell protection.
At an output current of 8 A, the UPS provides approximately 11 min 30 s of backup time at +25 °C. Runtime increases with lower consumption. The actual runtime is affected by the load, temperature, battery condition and UPS settings.
The long cell service life helps reduce battery replacement frequency and associated service costs. After a complete battery discharge, the battery should be recharged again as soon as possible.

Monitoring, shutdown and restart
UPS management and controlled IPC shutdown
When connected via USB, supported operating systems recognise the device as a HID UPS backup power supply without requiring an additional driver. UPS Gen² Configuration Software is available for detailed configuration, while UPScom software for Windows and Linux enables continuous monitoring and controlled shutdown.
In UPScom, you can monitor the charge status, set a shutdown delay or maximum backup time, send email notifications, and run your own script or program before shutdown.
The UPS monitors the power consumption of the connected equipment. If it falls below the configured threshold after a controlled shutdown, the UPS recognises this as a switched-off, unloaded system. The Load Sensor therefore makes it possible to verify shutdown completion and then correctly end backup operation.
During a power failure, the connected computer can save data, close applications and perform a controlled shutdown before the UPS disconnects the power supply.
After the computer has completed its controlled shutdown, the Reboot function can temporarily deactivate the UPS output and reactivate it after the configured time has elapsed. Automatic IPC startup must also be supported by the computer itself and its settings.
Power supply and installation
The UPS is installed between a 12 V power supply and the equipment to be backed up. The input operating range is 11.5–16 VDC. For full functionality, the manufacturer specifies an upstream 12 V / 10 A power supply, i.e. approximately 120 W, with SELV or PELV protective extra-low voltage and without constant-current mode.
The UPS enclosure measures 140 × 140 × 90 mm, excluding connectors and mounting brackets. For good natural convection, leave at least 100 mm of free space around the device. The UPS is not intended for series or parallel connection.
To maintain IP65/IP67 protection, the input, output and communication cables in use must be connected correctly. If the multifunction interface is not used, it must be closed with a suitable protective cap.

The UPS supports a static increased current of 8.4 A and a short-term dynamic current of 8.5–9.5 A for a maximum of 3 s. Base continuous-load calculations on the rated 8 A.
For very short current peaks, the UPS can supply up to 30 A for 5 ms, helping to handle short-term inrush loads of connected equipment.
At the maximum charging current, recharging takes approximately 34 min. When simultaneously supplying a higher load, the charging current is reduced and charging time may increase.

Frequently asked questions about the rugged Bicker UPSI-1208IP-11U backup power supply
Basic use and backup operation
What is the Bicker UPSI-1208IP-11U?
The UPSI-1208IP-11U is a rugged industrial DC/DC UPS backup power supply for 12 VDC-powered equipment. It has an integrated 25 Wh LiFePO₄ battery, a rated output current of 8 A and an aluminium enclosure with IP65/IP67 protection for indoor, outdoor and demanding industrial environments.
How does a DC UPS work in an industrial application?
The UPS is connected between an external 12 VDC power supply and the protected equipment. In normal mode, it transfers the input voltage to the output while simultaneously charging the integrated battery. In the event of an input-voltage failure, drop or fluctuation, it automatically switches to backup mode and powers the connected equipment from the LiFePO₄ battery.
What is the difference between the UPSI-2406IP-26U, UPSI-2406IP-12U and UPSI-1208IP-11U?
All three models are rugged industrial DC UPS systems with an IP65/IP67 enclosure, an integrated LiFePO₄ battery, connection to an external DC power supply, and suitability for outdoor or demanding industrial applications.
- UPSI-2406IP-26U: 24 VDC / 6 A / 144 W, 99 Wh battery. It is suitable for 24 VDC applications that require a longer backup time.
- UPSI-2406IP-12U: 24 VDC / 6 A / 144 W, 33 Wh battery and an approximate backup time of around 17 min at rated current and +25 °C. It is suitable where a shorter interruption bridging time is sufficient.
- UPSI-1208IP-11U: 12 VDC / 8 A / 96 W, 25 Wh battery and an approximate backup time of around 11 min 30 s at rated current and +25 °C. It is designed for 12 VDC-powered equipment, not 24 VDC loads.
For 24 VDC equipment, the required backup time is especially important: the UPSI-2406IP-26U has three times the battery energy of the UPSI-2406IP-12U, i.e. 99 Wh compared with 33 Wh. Choose the UPSI-1208IP-11U when the powered application is designed for 12 VDC.
Is a separate 12 V power supply required upstream of the UPS?
Yes. The UPSI-1208IP-11U is a DC/DC UPS, not a mains-powered AC/DC power supply. It requires an external 12 VDC power supply. For full functionality, battery charging and maximum output load, the upstream power supply must provide at least 12 VDC / 10 A / 120 W. The power supply should be SELV or PELV type and must not operate in constant-current mode.
What are the UPS input and output voltages?
The nominal input voltage is 12 VDC and the permitted input range is 11.5–16 VDC. In normal mode, the output voltage is approximately 12–11.35 VDC depending on the load. In backup mode, the UPS provides a regulated voltage of approximately 12–11.85 VDC depending on the load.
How quickly does the UPS switch during a power failure?
The transfer from normal mode to backup mode takes less than 600 µs. The UPS therefore bridges a short outage or input-voltage drop without interrupting the power supply to the 12 VDC load.
Does the UPS have a Battery Start function?
No. The Battery Start function is not available for the UPSI-IP-1 series, and therefore not for the UPSI-1208IP-11U. The UPS is commissioned by connecting an external 12 VDC power supply.
Battery and backup time
What is the battery capacity and type?
The UPS contains an integrated BP-LFP-1025S LiFePO₄ battery with a capacity of 2.5 Ah / 25 Wh. LiFePO₄ technology offers high safety, long service life and good resistance to cyclic operation.
How long can the UPS power equipment?
The backup time depends on the actual power consumption of the connected 12 VDC load, temperature and battery condition. At the rated output current of 8 A, the manufacturer specifies an approximate backup time of 11 min 30 s at +25 °C.
With lower consumption, the backup time increases. Conversely, it may be shorter at very high or low ambient temperatures.
How long does battery charging take?
The manufacturer specifies an approximate charging time of 34 min at maximum charging current. The actual time depends on the battery discharge level, input voltage and the current that the UPS simultaneously supplies to the connected load.
What happens when the battery is discharged?
The UPS protects the LiFePO₄ battery against deep discharge. Once the discharge-voltage threshold is reached, it disconnects the output to protect the battery. After operation in backup mode, the manufacturer recommends recharging the battery again as soon as possible.
Can the UPS be used to replace a large vehicle battery?
The UPS can be used, for example, to temporarily bridge the power supply to electronics while replacing a larger vehicle battery. However, the requirements of the specific installation, correct polarity, 12 VDC supply and the UPS maximum output current must always be observed. Do not use the power supply as a replacement for separately designed backup power for vehicle safety functions.
Ruggedness, installation and cabling
Is the UPS suitable for outdoor environments?
Yes. The UPS is designed for indoor and outdoor use in demanding conditions, for example in industrial automation, communication and measuring equipment, transport technology or outdoor control systems. The operating temperature range is −20 to +50 °C.
What does IP65/IP67 protection mean?
IP65/IP67 protection means complete protection against dust, protection against water jets, and protection during temporary immersion in water to a depth of 1 m for no more than 30 minutes. The device is not designed for continuous operation under water.
Full protection is ensured only when the cables supplied with the device are correctly connected. If the USB interface is not used, the multifunction connector must be closed with the optional PSZ-1104 protective cap.
How is the UPS mounted?
The UPS is mounted on a wall or another fixed surface using the pre-installed mounting brackets. For correct cooling, the manufacturer recommends installation with sufficient airflow and a clearance of at least 100 mm from surrounding equipment in all directions.
Which cables are included in the delivery?
The scope of delivery includes a 3 m input cable and a 3 m output cable, both with 3 × 2.5 mm² conductors including functional earth FE and open ends. A 3 m USB cable with a USB Type-A connector is also included.
Can the power cables be extended?
The manufacturer does not recommend extending the supplied cables. Excessive voltage drop on a long cable may cause the UPS to switch unintentionally to backup mode when the load changes. The cable length and cross-section must be considered when designing the installation.
What vibration and shock resistance does the UPS provide?
The UPS has been tested for vibration in accordance with DIN EN 60068-2-6 and for shock in accordance with DIN EN 60068-2-27. It is therefore also suitable for applications subject to mechanical stress.
Power, protection and communication
What power can the UPS deliver?
The rated output current is 8 A, corresponding to approximately 96 W at 12 V. The UPS can handle a short-term increase in output current to 8.5–9.5 A for up to 3 s, for example during an inrush peak of connected equipment.
How does the UPS protect itself and the connected load?
The UPS has reverse-polarity protection on the input during commissioning and output overcurrent and short-circuit protection. In the event of a short circuit, it disconnects the output in less than 5 ms. In normal mode, it then automatically attempts to restore operation.
However, a short circuit directly at the UPS output may damage the device. Therefore, route and secure the output cable so that insulation damage, loose conductors or contact between the V+ and V− conductors cannot occur. Use a suitable cable cross-section according to cable length and connected-load current consumption.
How can the UPS status be monitored?
A green LED indicates basic operating and fault conditions. Via the USB interface, the UPS is recognised as a HID UPS or HID battery by most operating systems without additional drivers. UPS Gen2 Configuration Software is available for parameter configuration, while UPScom software is available for monitoring and controlled system shutdown.
Which communication interfaces does the UPS support?
The multifunction interface supports USB 2.0 with HID and VCOM protocols. RS232 or a potential-free relay output for Power Fail signalling is also available. The relevant optional cable must be ordered for both RS232 and the relay; the individual functions cannot be used simultaneously through one connector.
How does the Load Sensor work?
The UPS monitors the power consumption of the connected equipment. If it falls below the configured threshold after a controlled shutdown, the UPS recognises this as a switched-off system without load. The Load Sensor therefore makes it possible to verify shutdown completion and subsequently end backup operation correctly.
For which applications is the UPSI-1208IP-11U suitable?
The UPS is suitable for 12 VDC control systems, industrial computers, communication and measuring equipment, sensors, actuators, security components, mobile equipment and other electronics operated outside a conventional control cabinet or in environments with dust, water, vibration or power-supply fluctuations.
