T1 Active PROFIBUS DP terminator
The T1 Terminator is a device for active termination of PROFIBUS DP segments (RS-485). It is used at the ends of segments to ensure stable communication, eliminate signal reflections, and enable diagnostics without disrupting network operation. Active termination is especially important for longer segments, higher transmission speeds, or when end devices (e.g., PLCs) may be disconnected or powered off.
Key Features
- Active termination for PROFIBUS DP segments
- Built-in DB9 connector for connecting diagnostic tools (e.g. ProfiTrace 2) or as main bus connection
- Redundant power supply with LED indication and automatic switchover in case of power failure
- Supports all PROFIBUS DP RS-485 protocols (e.g., PROFIsafe, PROFIdrive, MPI)
- Compatible with all baud rates: 9.6 kbps – 12 Mbps
- Mountable on standard DIN rail
Why choose the T1 active terminator for PROFIBUS segments?
- Actively suppresses reflections and stabilizes logic levels, ensuring high-quality signal
- Allows disconnection or shutdown of end devices without causing communication instability
- Enables signal measurement and troubleshooting without affecting network operation
- Redundant power supply increases reliability and minimizes the risk of failures
Explore the capabilities of T1 in more detail
Using the T1 active terminator allows the last PROFIBUS device in a segment to be powered off, removed, or replaced without compromising proper termination of the PROFIBUS DP segment. Both ends of the PROFIBUS segment must have active termination with enabled resistors and be powered. This function is provided by the T1 active terminator.
The end PROFIBUS stations in a segment are critical, as their position effectively provides active termination for the segment (enabled resistor + powered termination). If an end station needs to be disconnected for any reason, the stability of the PROFIBUS network is compromised, which can lead to network failure (assuming the loss of the end station is not handled in the PLC program).

The T1 active termination has a redundant power supply (i.e. when one power supply fails, it automatically switches to the other) and diagnostics of the status of individual power supplies using LEDs. Furthermore, this device is equipped with a DB9 connector, which is designed for connecting diagnostic devices, e.g. ProfiTrace 2. The active termination is installed on a DIN rail.

PROFIBUS: 3 Sins and 10 Tips
The PROFIBUS industrial bus is highly tolerant and will forgive many faults. But if a critical fault occurs—or several small ones accumulate—you will definitely notice. That’s why this aging industrial network deserves attention. Even if faults on your network are still rare, they will gradually accumulate. What do our technicians recommend? What are their 10 tips for maintaining PROFIBUS?
