400 W power supply for a medical computer and 24 V peripherals
Bicker MP1S-6400V-B1 can power the motherboard, processor, storage devices and compatible medical peripherals from a single mains power supply. In addition to standard PC power rails, it provides a separate +24 VDC / 6 A output and is designed for integration into devices according to IEC/EN 60601-1.

Do you need to power a medical computer and 24 V peripherals?
Send us your PC configuration, the power consumption of the connected devices and their power requirements. We will help verify the load on each output rail and whether the MP1S-6400V-B1 is suitable for your system.
One power supply for the PC and 24 V peripherals
MP1S-6400V-B1 converts 90–264 VAC mains voltage into standard PC power rails while also providing a separate +24 VDC output. This makes it possible to power both the computer section and compatible 24 V peripherals from a single power supply.
The total output power is 400 W. The standard PC rails can provide up to 260 W combined, while the separate +24 V rail delivers up to 6 A. In many applications, this removes the need for an additional external AC/DC power supply just for a monitor or other 24 V electronics.
Using fewer power supplies means less cabling, fewer mains connections and a clearer overall system design. This can simplify not only initial integration but also servicing and subsequent maintenance.
One power supply can power the PC section as well as compatible 24 V peripherals. The total output power and combined limits of the individual rails must be taken into account during system design.
The integrated 24 V output can replace an additional AC/DC adapter and simplify the power architecture of a medical system.
The 90–264 VAC input range allows the same power supply to be used in equipment intended for different countries and mains networks.
Separate 24 V output for peripherals
The additional +24 VDC output with a maximum current of 6 A is intended for devices that cannot be powered from standard PC power rails. Typical applications include medical monitors, imaging units and other electronics requiring 24 VDC.
The computer section and connected peripheral can therefore share one mains connection. This reduces the number of power components and simplifies the design of compact systems.
The +24 VDC output is provided via a separate cable terminated with Faston connectors. During integration, the current consumption, permissible voltage tolerances and connection method of the specific peripheral must be verified.
The separate rail provides up to 144 W for compatible monitors, imaging units and other medical peripherals.
The computer and compatible 24 V peripherals can use one common power supply instead of several separate adapters.
The 24 V output is provided via a separate pair of wires for connecting a compatible device.
Output voltages and available currents
The 400 W total output rating alone is not enough to determine whether the power supply is suitable. The current requirements of the motherboard, processor, storage devices and any 24 V peripherals must also be checked on each individual output.
| Output voltage | Maximum current |
|---|---|
| +24 VDC | 6 A |
| +3.3 VDC | 10 A |
| +5 VDC | 12 A |
| +12 VDC | 16 A |
| −12 VDC | 0.3 A |
| +5 Vsb | 2.5 A |
Power supply for medical devices
For medical equipment, choosing a standard PC power supply simply because it has the required output and connectors is not sufficient. The power section must meet increased requirements for electrical safety and leakage current.
MP1S-6400V-B1 complies with IEC/EN 60601-1 and UL 60601-1. The manufacturer specifies a leakage current of less than 300 µA at both 115 VAC and 230 VAC input voltage. The power supply therefore provides a suitable basis for medical systems in which power safety needs to be addressed already at component level.
Powering the computer and a 24 V peripheral from one power supply can also reduce the number of mains-powered sections and simplify the assessment of the complete system.
The power supply meets the relevant safety requirements for medical electrical equipment.
Low leakage current makes it easier to design systems in which the combined leakage current of all components must be monitored.
One common power supply for the PC and 24 V peripheral can simplify both the system design and the assessment of the power section.
Safety of the final device
A certified power supply simplifies design, but the complete device still needs to be assessed
MP1S-6400V-B1 is a power component intended for integration into a finished product. Its safety approvals help when designing medical equipment, but they do not automatically mean that the complete device complies with all requirements or is certified.
The power supply is designed as an embedded component for installation inside a suitable enclosure of the final system.
After integration, the electromagnetic compatibility of the complete device must be assessed in its actual configuration.
Protective grounding, cabling, mechanical design, connected peripherals and other parts of the final device must also be taken into account.
Lower power losses and cooling as needed
MP1S-6400V-B1 uses active PFC to improve the way current is drawn from the mains and help reduce unnecessary load on the power infrastructure.
Efficiency reaches 84% at rated load and 230 VAC input voltage. Higher efficiency helps reduce the amount of energy converted into waste heat inside the power supply.
The integrated fan adjusts its speed according to temperature, so cooling adapts to the current operating conditions. The power supply is designed for operation at an ambient temperature of 0 to +40 °C, so sufficient airflow must be ensured when it is installed in the final device.
Helps improve the way the power supply draws current from the mains.
Higher efficiency helps reduce energy losses and heat generation inside the device.
Fan speed is controlled according to temperature and adapts to the actual operating conditions of the power supply.
Standard PC connectors and cabling
MP1S-6400V-B1 uses fixed cabling with standard connectors for the motherboard, processor, expansion cards, and storage devices. The PC part of the system therefore does not require custom-made cabling.
The 20+4-pin ATX/EPS connector and 4+4-pin P4/EPS connector allow direct connection of standard PC components.
The 6+2-pin PCI Express connector allows a compatible expansion card to be powered directly from the power supply.
Four SATA connectors, HDD and FDD connectors are complemented by separate +24 VDC / GND wires with Faston connectors.
Bridging short power interruptions
MP1S-6400V-B1 can maintain its output voltages for a short period after the mains input is lost. The manufacturer specifies a hold-up time of more than 16 ms. A very short voltage dip or interruption therefore does not necessarily cause the computer to restart immediately.
The Power Good signal also informs the motherboard whether the supply voltages are within the required range. After power-up, it is activated with a delay of 100–500 ms, while the manufacturer specifies a 1 ms switch-off delay when the correct power conditions are lost.
Protection against short circuit, overload and overvoltage
The power supply includes protective functions that help limit the consequences of short circuits, overloads or output values exceeding the permitted limits. The exact behaviour of the protection depends on the specific rail and type of fault condition.
In the event of a short circuit, the main output rails including +24 VDC are switched off. For the +5 Vsb standby rail, the manufacturer specifies automatic recovery after the fault has been removed.
If the defined load is exceeded to approximately 110–160%, the power supply switches off to prevent prolonged operation beyond its rated capacity.
The +3.3 V, +5 V and +12 V rails have defined protection limits against excessive voltage and current.
