ACKSYS AirBox LTE – industrial communication gateway for 4G LTE, WiFi and Ethernet
ACKSYS AirBox LTE combines an industrial 4G LTE router, WiFi Access Point / client, GNSS receiver, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and digital I/O in one device. It is designed to connect machines, IIoT equipment and mobile systems to corporate or remote networks.
Multiple independent communication interfaces make AirBox LTE suitable for both fixed industrial installations and vehicles. The router can automatically switch between WiFi and the cellular network, supports two SIM cards and also provides GNSS positioning.
4G LTE with Dual SIM
LTE Cat. 4 provides radio rates up to 150 Mbit/s download and 50 Mbit/s upload. Two SIM slots allow a backup cellular connection to be configured.
2× Gigabit Ethernet
Two 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet ports make it possible to connect several local devices or easily integrate AirBox LTE into an existing Ethernet network.
2 inputs + 2 outputs
Integrated digital I/O can be used for remote status monitoring, reading external signals or simple control of external equipment.
WiFi + Fast Roaming
WiFi 802.11n MIMO 2T2R operates in the 2.4 or 5 GHz band and supports Fast Roaming below 30 ms in client mode.
Where is AirBox LTE used?
AirBox LTE is suitable for applications that need to combine local Ethernet and WiFi connectivity with cellular access to a remote network.
WiFi ↔ 4G/LTE
Automatic switching between available networks.
AirBox LTE can automatically switch between WiFi and the cellular network depending on availability. For example, a vehicle can use corporate WiFi while in a depot and continue communicating via 4G/LTE after leaving.
Combining several network interfaces helps improve communication availability and reduces dependence on a single connection method.
4G LTE Cat. 4 and two SIM cards
The cellular interface supports 4G LTE, UMTS/HSPA+ and GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Dual SIM makes it possible to use two SIM cards and create backup cellular connectivity, for example with two operators.
WiFi 802.11n for local and mobile communication
AirBox LTE includes an 802.11a/b/g/n MIMO 2T2R WiFi interface with a radio rate up to 300 Mbit/s. The radio can operate in the 2.4 or 5 GHz band.
- WiFi Access Point
- WiFi client
- IEEE 802.11s Mesh
- Fast Roaming below 30 ms
- WMM QoS
- DFS and TPC in the 5 GHz band
2× Gigabit Ethernet and industrial protocol transport
AirBox LTE provides two 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Gigabit Ethernet ports with RJ45 connectors. Standard Ethernet traffic can be transparently transported over both wired and wireless interfaces.
The manufacturer lists applications such as video, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP and PROFINET. AirBox LTE acts as communication infrastructure; it does not itself control or convert these industrial protocols.
- 2× Gigabit Ethernet RJ45
- 10/100/1000 Base-TX
- Auto MDI/MDIX
- Ethernet bridging
- VLAN
- STP / RSTP
- DHCP server and client
- static routing
- NAT
- VRRP and multicast
2 digital inputs + 2 digital outputs
In addition to communication interfaces, AirBox LTE provides 2 isolated digital inputs and 2 solid-state outputs. They can be used for remote signalling, reading external device states or simple control functions.
Digital inputs
Inputs for connecting external status signals up to a maximum level of 24 VDC.
Digital outputs
Two solid-state relay outputs can be used for alarms or simple remote control.
GNSS for vehicle positioning
The integrated multi-constellation GNSS receiver supports GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou. AirBox LTE can therefore also provide position information for vehicles or mobile machines.
An active GNSS antenna is required for GNSS operation.
For industry and vehicles
Rugged solution for fixed and mobile installations.
AirBox LTE is also certified for mobile applications. E-mark E2 / ECE R10 approval allows installation in road vehicles.
- E-mark E2 / ECE R10
- EN 61373 CAT 1 Class B – shock and vibration
- operating temperature −20 to +60 °C
- IP30 protection
- compact metal housing
- wall or DIN rail mounting
Redundant 9–48 VDC or PoE power supply
AirBox LTE provides a redundant 9–48 VDC power input, increasing availability in industrial and mobile applications.
From the V2 version, the device can also be powered using PoE IEEE 802.3af.
Communication security
AirBox LTE uses the ACKSYS WaveOS platform and provides security functions for WiFi, remote access and device management.
- WPA / WPA2 Personal and Enterprise
- IEEE 802.1X / RADIUS
- firewall and DoS protection
- HTTPS
- MAC filtering
- OpenVPN
- GRE L2 tunnels

WaveOS & WaveManager
AirBox LTE uses the ACKSYS WaveOS operating system. Configuration and diagnostics can be performed via web interface, HTTPS or SNMP.
For larger deployments, ACKSYS WaveManager provides centralized configuration, monitoring and management of WaveOS-based devices.
Current version: the manufacturer offers AirBox LTE under reference AirBox/17. The older AirBox/14 has been discontinued and replaced by AirBox/17.
