Wireless PROFIBUS at 2.4 GHz

DATAEAGLE 373x replaces a stressed or difficult-to-install PROFIBUS cable with a stable industrial radio link. It is suitable for moving machine parts, rotary tables, cranes, conveyors and retrofits where the data cable is regularly exposed to wear.

1 Select the base module Compact IP20 for the control cabinet or X-TREME IP65 for direct installation in the plant.
2 Select the communication mode Point-to-point, multipoint 1–4 or PROFIBUS with PROFIsafe.
3 Assign the unit roles For each unit, select the transmitter or receiver version.
How do you configure the DATAEAGLE 373x wireless PROFIBUS system correctly?

Configure every system in three steps

Step 1

Select the base module

Each transmitter and receiver requires its own DATAEAGLE 373x base module. Compact and X-TREME units can be combined in one system.

  • 15375 – Compact: DIN-rail mounting, IP20,
  • 15376 – X-TREME: robust IP65 version,
  • industrial 24 V DC power supply,
  • external antenna through an SMA connector.
Step 2

Select the communication version

The communication version determines the topology, number of wireless units, number of PROFIBUS devices and support for safety communication.

  • 15380: PROFIBUS point-to-point,
  • 15381: PROFIBUS multipoint 1–4,
  • 15382: PROFIBUS + PROFIsafe multipoint,
  • maximum PROFIBUS DP speed 1.5 Mbit/s.
Step 3

Select the station type

Each base module must be assigned a role. The smallest system consists of one transmitter and one receiver.

  • 15383: DATAEAGLE transmitter,
  • 15384: DATAEAGLE receiver,
  • point-to-point uses a pair of units,
  • multipoint connects several remote sections.
DATAEAGLE 373x Compact – IP20

A slim version for DIN-rail mounting inside a control cabinet. Suitable where the electronics and connections are protected by the cabinet and the antenna can be installed in a suitable position.

A robust metal version for mounting directly on a machine or in a demanding industrial environment. Power and PROFIBUS are connected through industrial M12 connectors.

Example: two moving machine sections

One fixed section with a PLC must communicate wirelessly with two separate moving sections containing PROFIBUS stations. A multipoint system with one transmitter and two receivers is used.

Antennas are not automatically included in the system:
Each DATAEAGLE unit requires its own antenna. The correct type depends on distance, direction of movement, unit positions, obstacles and surrounding radio networks. For PROFIsafe applications, the safety times of the complete application must also be verified.
