LiFePO₄ – Safe and Long-Term Reliable Lithium-Ion Battery Technology
The integrated LiFePO₄ battery pack excels in safety-critical applications thanks to its exceptionally stable cell chemistry, long service life of up to 10 years, and up to 6,000 full charge and discharge cycles. For all high-performance battery modules, Bicker Elektronik deliberately relies on the exceptionally safe lithium iron phosphate technology, in which so-called thermal runaway is virtually impossible. Combined with a specially developed Battery Management System (BMS), Bicker Elektronik is able to guarantee the highest level of product safety and reliability.

Low Total Cost Compared to Lead-Acid Batteries
Unlike supposedly cheaper lead-acid batteries, high-quality lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) cells offer approximately 15–20× longer service life and cycle stability. In addition, 100% of the rated capacity of a LiFePO₄ battery can be continuously utilized. Lead-acid batteries, on the other hand, have significant limitations in depth of discharge and cycle life. When calculating the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) over a usage period of up to 10 years, LiFePO₄ proves to be significantly more cost-effective, especially since no maintenance or battery replacement is required during this time.
“Power Sharing” with Intelligent Input Current Detection
The intelligent “Power Sharing” function on the 24 V DC input ensures that there is no need to oversize the input AC/DC power supply, as the input power is kept constant and optimally distributed between the load and the LiFePO₄ battery charger. At low output load, more energy is directed to the charger, and vice versa. This saves both energy and costs.
„Smart Battery Lock“ Prevents Battery Discharge
The battery management system prevents self-discharge of the integrated battery when the UPSI-2406DP3 is switched off by appropriately deactivating the battery. By minimizing the BMS’s own power consumption, the safety and service life of the DC UPS backup power supply are significantly increased.

Key Advantages of Supercapacitors over Lead-Acid and LiFePO₄ Batteries
🔋 Service Life and Cycle Stability
-
Supercapacitors: Up to 500,000 charge/discharge cycles and a lifespan of 10–15 years.
-
Lead-acid batteries: Around 500–1,000 cycles, with 3–5 years of service life.
-
LiFePO₄ batteries: Typically 3,000–7,000 cycles, lasting 8–12 years.
👉 Supercapacitors provide a much longer cycle life than both technologies.
⚡ Charging Speed and Availability
-
Supercapacitors: Charge within seconds to minutes, immediately ready for use.
-
Lead-acid batteries: Require hours to recharge.
-
LiFePO₄: Faster than lead-acid, but still tens of minutes to hours.
👉 Ideal for bridging short-term power failures.
🌡 Temperature Range
-
Supercapacitors: Operate reliably from -40 °C to +65 °C (or higher).
-
Lead-acid batteries: Performance drops significantly below 0 °C and above 40 °C.
-
LiFePO₄: Better than lead-acid, but charging below 0 °C is problematic.
🛠 Maintenance and Reliability
-
Supercapacitors: Maintenance-free, no liquid electrolyte, robust design.
-
Lead-acid batteries: Require monitoring and are prone to sulfation.
-
LiFePO₄: Maintenance-free but require a Battery Management System (BMS).
⚙️ Power and Load Capability
-
Supercapacitors: Very high current capability and power density, excellent for peak loads and short backup times.
-
Lead-acid batteries: Limited load capacity, performance drops under high currents.
-
LiFePO₄: Good load capability, but not as extreme as supercapacitors.
❗ Limitations of Supercapacitors
-
Lower energy density compared to batteries → not suitable for long backup durations.
-
Higher cost per watt-hour of stored energy.
✅ In summary:
-
Supercapacitors = unmatched cycle life, ultra-fast charging, high reliability, ideal for short-term backup.
-
LiFePO₄ batteries = great balance between longevity, energy capacity, and cost for medium- to long-term backup.
-
Lead-acid batteries = low cost, but limited lifespan, heavy, and less efficient.
Configuration of the UPS Module via “UPScom” Software
The “UPScom” software (free download) enables controlled shutdown and disconnection of connected devices during a power failure to prevent data loss or damage. The responsive web-based user interface (WEB UI) opens in an internet browser and is used for configuring and pre-programming all parameters of the DC UPS system, as well as for real-time monitoring with a battery charge status indicator. Configurable parameters include, among others, load sensor (mA), shutdown delay, maximum backup time, minimum charge capacity before system startup, and email notifications.

Safe Shutdown and Restart Function for IPC Systems
In the event of a power failure, the UPS signals the loss of voltage via the integrated USB or RS-232 interface, enabling a controlled shutdown of the computer system and the saving of valuable data. Before the system shuts down, a script (batch) can also be executed to carry out processes required by the specific application. The integrated restart function of the DC UPS automatically restarts the powered IPC once voltage is restored, without the need for time-consuming on-site intervention by a service technician — for example, in fully autonomous computer systems located in hard-to-reach places.
Email Notification Service
“UPScom” will send you an email notification in the event of a lost UPS connection, system shutdown, or power failure. These preventive measures can reduce or even completely eliminate downtime.
