How to Fit an ARMOR Cover on a FANUC A05B-2256 / 2255 / 2518 Teach Pendant
Step-by-step instructions for fitting the ARMOR protective bumper to FANUC teach pendants in the A05B-2256, A05B-2255 and A05B-2518 series.
-
Power down the controller
Power down the robot controller and disconnect the teach pendant cable directly from the pendant.
-
Remove the original hand strap
Completely remove the original Velcro hand strap from the teach pendant.
-
Prepare the bumper
Place the ARMOR bumper face up on a clean, dry surface.
-
Position the teach pendant on the bumper
Place the teach pendant onto the prepared bumper.
-
Fit the bottom-left corner
Start at the bottom-left corner. Position the cable connector in the corresponding cutout in the bumper. Make sure the hand-strap cam and cable connector are correctly seated in the bumper.

-
Pull the bumper over the edges
Once the corner is secured, pull the bumper over the bottom edge of the teach pendant, then along both sides and finally over the top edge.
-
Reattach the hand strap
Reattach the original Velcro hand strap to the teach pendant with the bumper fitted. Needle-nose pliers may help when threading the strap through the attachment points.
-
Check access to the emergency-stop button (E-STOP)
The bumper has a rubber rim around the emergency-stop button to help prevent accidental activation. However, the rim must not obstruct quick and reliable operation of the button, including activation with the palm of the hand. If the rim restricts access, trim it along the marked cutting lines using a utility knife. Before powering up the controller, ensure the emergency-stop button remains easily accessible.
-
Reconnect the cable
Reconnect the controller cable to the teach pendant.
-
Power up the controller
Power up the robot controller in accordance with your site's operating procedures.
-
Inspect the fitting
Check that the bumper fits securely around the entire perimeter, the hand strap is firmly attached, the cable is not pinched and all controls remain safely accessible.
Post-fitting check
Before returning the robot to normal operation, check the following:
- The bumper fits correctly and does not obstruct access to any controls.
- The Velcro hand strap is securely fastened, and the cable is neither pinched nor damaged.
- The emergency-stop button (E-STOP) is easily accessible, and its correct operation has been verified in accordance with your site's safety procedures.
