Local MQTT broker for DIN rail mounting
The W&T MQTT.box 55990 is an industrial MQTT broker featuring Mosquitto, two Gigabit network interfaces and web-based management. It receives messages from MQTT clients and forwards them to subscribers according to topics and access permissions.

Usage
It serves as a local communication hub for MQTT sensors, I/O modules, control systems and applications. A cloud broker is not required for the actual transmission of messages within the local network.

MQTT communication and access management
- The broker facilitates client communication based on the Publish/Subscribe principle. The scope of authorisation is configured using users and ACLs, i.e. access control lists.
- WuTility facilitates the initial configuration; further settings are configured via the web management interface. Access rules must be set up for specific clients and topics.
- The platform has 4 GB eMMC and 1 GB DDR3 RAM. The total flash capacity is not available as free space for user data.
- Back-up capacitors enable a controlled shutdown following a power cut. They are not intended as a power source for long-term operation without mains power.
Commissioning and accessories
Connect the network interfaces and the PoE or 24–48 V DC power supply. Configure IP addresses, users and access rules. Then test client logins, as well as the publication and subscription of specific topics.

Is MQTT.box a converter from any protocol to MQTT?
The primary function is that of an MQTT broker, i.e. the reception and distribution of MQTT messages. Conversion of other protocols must be handled by the relevant client or another solution.
Does the internet need to be available for local communication?
An internet connection is not required for MQTT clients to communicate with a local broker. Clients must have network access to the broker.
Is it possible to restrict who can read or edit a topic?
Yes. MQTT.box supports user management and access control via ACLs.
