Fixed-rate unidirectional Ethernet data transmission
The W&T Fix Defined Firewall 55312 allows Ethernet packets to pass from the input to the output whilst blocking traffic in the opposite direction. This unidirectional behaviour is fixed and cannot be changed via configuration. The device has no network services of its own and no Ethernet address.

Usage
It is used, for example, in telemetry or network traffic analysis, where the receiving system is required to collect data without transmitting it back to the monitored network. Its suitability depends on whether the application can actually manage with a unidirectional data flow.

Unidirectional transmission and its limitations
- Packets arriving at the input are transparently forwarded to the output. Packets travelling in the opposite direction are blocked, and this setting cannot be changed.
- The device does not provide its own configuration interface or network services. Commissioning involves correctly connecting the ports and the power supply.
- This is not a standard bidirectional firewall with configurable rules. Protocols requiring responses or acknowledgements cannot be considered functional without verification of the entire communication architecture.
- Power is available via PoE or an external power supply within the range specified in the technical table.
Commissioning and accessories
First, check that the data being transmitted and the application support unidirectional operation. Then connect the data source to the input and the receiving system to the output. Observe the direction of transmission and connect PoE or a suitable external power source.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can two-way communication be enabled at a later date?
No. The unidirectional setting is fixed and there is no configuration interface available.
Will standard TCP communication work via the device?
TCP typically requires bidirectional packet exchange. Its use must be assessed in accordance with the specific architecture; simply inserting it into a standard TCP connection cannot be regarded as a viable solution.
Does the firewall have its own IP address for administration?
The manufacturer states that the device has no network services or Ethernet address of its own and does not provide a configuration interface.
