Serial devices accessible via Ethernet
The W&T Com-Server++ 58665 connects a single device with an RS232, RS422 or RS485 interface to an Ethernet network. It makes serial communication available to a computer via a virtual COM port, to a proprietary application via TCP/UDP, or to another Com-Server in Box-to-Box mode.

Usage
It is suitable for connecting serial meters, scales, readers and other devices to a network application. A programme using a COM port can be connected via the W&T COM Port Redirector. For Modbus communication, a gateway mode is used between the Modbus TCP client and Modbus RTU slave serial devices.

Communication and functions
- A single DB9 connector always provides one selected type of serial interface, not three independent ports. The baud rate ranges from 50 to 230,400 Bd.
- Box-to-Box creates a bidirectional tunnel between two Com-Servers without the need for a permanently connected computer. Multipoint mode allows copies of data to be transmitted to up to six network stations.
- Virtual COM ports, TCP/UDP, Modbus TCP/RTU, FTP, Telnet, SLIP and Wake-on-LAN are available. Support for an OPC server does not imply a built-in OPC UA server.
- The current version also supports TLS-PSK encrypted transmissions and encrypted Box-to-Box. For existing devices, check the availability of these features against their firmware version.
Commissioning and accessories
Set the IP address using WuTility or DHCP and select the communication mode. On the serial side, the pin configuration, baud rate, parity, number of bits and flow control must match. The connector alone does not guarantee compatibility with a specific PLC or its programming software.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I connect three serial devices at the same time?
No. Model 58665 has one serial port. RS232, RS422 and RS485 are the selectable electrical modes for this port.
Do I need a Box-to-Box computer?
Not for direct transmission. Two configured Com-Servers transmit data between serial devices over the network.
Is a virtual COM port physically the same as a local port?
The application uses a virtual COM port, but data is transferred over the network. For time-sensitive applications, it is necessary to verify behaviour in the event of latency and connection interruptions.
