ACKSYS AirXroad Outdoor WiFi Bridge – wireless Ethernet connection for outdoor applications
ACKSYS AirXroad Outdoor WiFi Bridge creates a secure wireless Point-to-Point connection between two Ethernet networks, two remote devices or, for example, two buildings.
The solution consists of two industrial AirXroad units forming a wireless Ethernet bridge. Thanks to IP66 protection, AirXroad can be installed directly outdoors without an additional protective enclosure. Bridge throughput reaches up to 250 Mbit/s.
Connect Ethernet without a cable
Two AirXroad units create a wireless Ethernet bridge between two devices or separate Ethernet networks, eliminating the need to install a data cable between remote points.
Outdoor IP66 design
Unlike the indoor AirLink Bridge, AirXroad can be installed directly outdoors thanks to IP66 protection. It withstands water, dust, vibration and large temperature variations.
Up to 250 Mbit/s
The Point-to-Point connection provides throughput up to 250 Mbit/s. Actual performance depends on distance, antennas, radio conditions and the surrounding environment.
Quick commissioning
ACKSYS provides ready-to-use configuration files that make it easy to configure two standard AirXroad units as a Point-to-Point WiFi bridge.
Where is Outdoor WiFi Bridge used?
The solution is suitable wherever Ethernet must be transmitted between two remote points and installing fibre or copper cable is difficult, expensive or technically impossible.
How does Outdoor WiFi Bridge work?
The principle is similar to an Ethernet cable between two points, except that the middle part of the communication is wireless. A complete bridge requires 2 AirXroad units.
WiFi 802.11n MIMO 2T2R
Each AirXroad contains one IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi radio with MIMO 2T2R. Depending on configuration, it can operate in the 2.4 or 5 GHz band, with a wireless data rate up to 300 Mbit/s.
For the complete Point-to-Point link, the manufacturer specifies throughput up to 250 Mbit/s. The device also supports DFS and TPC for operation in the 5 GHz band.
Link distance depends on the antennas used
AirXroad uses external WiFi antennas. This allows the antenna type to be selected according to the required distance, communication direction and installation conditions.
For medium-distance outdoor Point-to-Point links, the manufacturer recommends high-gain directional antennas, clear line of sight between both points and proper consideration of the Fresnel zone when designing the radio link.
Gigabit Ethernet via rugged M12 X-coded connector
Each AirXroad has one 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Gigabit Ethernet port using an industrial 8-pin M12 X-coded connector.
The M12 connector provides a mechanically rugged network connection suitable for outdoor industrial installations, machines, vehicles and environments exposed to vibration.
- 1× Gigabit Ethernet on each AirXroad
- 10/100/1000 Base-TX
- M12 X-coded
- Auto MDI/MDIX
- bridging and Ethernet frame filtering
- VLAN
- STP/RSTP
- DHCP server and client
- static routing and NAT
- VRRP and multicast
IP66 and −40 to +70 °C
WiFi Bridge designed for real outdoor industrial installations.
AirXroad is designed for demanding outdoor and industrial conditions. Thanks to IP66 protection, no additional protective enclosure is required for standard outdoor installation.
- IP66 protection
- operating temperature −40 to +70 °C
- storage temperature −40 to +85 °C
- shock and vibration resistance EN 61373 CAT 1 Class B
- climatic tests EN 60068-2
- E-marking ECE R10
- dimensions 115 × 64 × 34 mm
- weight approx. 332 g
9–48 VDC or PoE power supply
Each AirXroad can be powered from 9–48 VDC via a rugged 4-pin M12 connector or using PoE IEEE 802.3af.
PoE can significantly simplify cabling because Ethernet communication and power can be supplied to the device over a single cable.
Secure outdoor Ethernet bridge
AirXroad uses the ACKSYS WaveOS operating system and provides security functions for protecting wireless communication and device management. Current manufacturer firmware meets EN 18031 cybersecurity requirements.
- WPA / WPA2 Personal and Enterprise
- IEEE 802.1X / RADIUS
- firewall and DoS protection
- HTTPS
- MAC filtering
- OpenVPN
- GRE L2 tunnels
- SNMPv3
- EN 18031 cybersecurity
WaveOS & WaveManager
AirXroad uses the ACKSYS WaveOS operating system. Configuration and diagnostics can be performed via web interface, HTTPS or SNMP.
For larger installations, ACKSYS WaveManager can be used for centralized monitoring, configuration and management of the WiFi infrastructure.
Important: a complete Outdoor WiFi Bridge requires 2 AirXroad units. AirXroad is supplied without Ethernet and power cables and without WiFi antennas. Antennas should be selected according to the distance and conditions of the specific radio link.
