ACKSYS AirWave – industrial WiFi 6 for machines, AGVs and AMRs
ACKSYS AirWave is a compact industrial wireless device with WiFi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax), designed especially for applications where reliable WiFi communication is required even while equipment is moving.
Typical applications include AGV and AMR robots, logistics vehicles, moving machines, PLCs, production lines and other industrial automation equipment. AirWave can operate as a WiFi client, Access Point, router, repeater or Mesh device.
Fast Roaming for AGVs and moving machines
As an AGV, AMR or other machine moves through a production hall, the WiFi client needs to switch between Access Points. AirWave uses Fast Roaming to help shorten handover times between APs and reduce communication interruptions.
Two simultaneously operating WiFi radios
AirWave contains two WiFi 6 radios for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Both can operate simultaneously, enabling more flexible industrial WiFi designs and demanding mobile applications.
WiFi 6 for industrial applications
WiFi 6 uses OFDMA and MU-MIMO to improve wireless communication efficiency when multiple devices are operating simultaneously. In the 5 GHz band, AirWave reaches speeds of up to 1201 Mbit/s.
Versatile AP, client and router
A single device can connect a machine to an existing WiFi network, create a local Access Point, wirelessly connect Ethernet devices or route traffic between different network segments.
Where is AirWave used?
AirWave is particularly suitable where industrial equipment is moving, requires reliable WiFi connectivity or where an Ethernet device needs to be connected wirelessly to the company network.
WiFi for PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and Modbus/TCP
AirWave can be used not only for standard Ethernet communication, but also for data transmission in industrial automation. It is therefore suitable for wireless connection of PLCs, HMIs, robots, remote I/O and other Ethernet devices.
With a correctly designed WiFi infrastructure, AirWave can be used in industrial Ethernet applications where a fixed or moving machine needs to be connected wirelessly.
High-performance WiFi and Ethernet interface
AirWave uses MIMO 2T2R technology and supports WiFi 6 in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. For wired communication it features a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port, providing sufficient performance even for high-speed WiFi communication.
Industrial design and flexible power supply
AirWave is housed in a compact metal enclosure and designed for installation directly inside industrial equipment or control cabinets. It can be mounted on a DIN rail or wall.
Power can be supplied over a wide 7–48 VDC range or via PoE IEEE 802.3af. Two RP-SMA antenna connectors allow the use of external antennas selected for the specific application.

WaveOS & WaveManager
Configuration, diagnostics and central management of ACKSYS industrial WiFi devices.
AirWave uses the ACKSYS WaveOS operating system. Configuration and diagnostics can be performed via the web interface, HTTPS, SNMP, MQTT or CLI.
For larger installations, ACKSYS WaveManager can be used for central configuration, monitoring and management of the WiFi infrastructure. This is particularly useful in production and logistics halls with larger fleets of AGVs, AMRs or other wirelessly connected devices.
