ACKSYS AirWan-M12 – 4G LTE and WiFi router for vehicles, buses and trams
ACKSYS AirWan-M12 is an industrial router designed primarily for buses, trams, trucks, service, emergency and other road vehicles. It combines 4G LTE, WiFi, GNSS and Ethernet in one compact device.
Thanks to Dual SIM, Fast Roaming below 30 ms and automatic switching between WiFi and 4G/LTE, a vehicle can use WiFi at a depot and continue communicating via the cellular network after leaving.
Dual SIM 4G LTE
LTE Cat. 4 provides a maximum radio rate of up to 150 Mbit/s download and 50 Mbit/s upload. Two nano SIM cards allow backup cellular connectivity.
WiFi + Fast Roaming
WiFi 802.11n MIMO 2T2R operates in the 2.4 or 5 GHz band. Fast Roaming below 30 ms is suitable for vehicles moving between Access Points, for example inside a depot.
M12 + FAKRA
Two Ethernet ports use rugged M12 D-coded connectors, while the WiFi, LTE and GNSS radio interfaces use FAKRA connectors.
GNSS positioning
The integrated GNSS receiver supports GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou and can provide vehicle position information.
Where is AirWan-M12 used?
AirWan-M12 is designed primarily for mobile applications where Ethernet, WiFi, cellular connectivity and GNSS positioning need to be combined.
WiFi ↔ 4G/LTE
Automatic switching according to network availability.
AirWan-M12 allows a vehicle to automatically switch between WiFi and the 4G/LTE cellular network.
A typical application is a bus or tram in a depot. While parked, the vehicle can transfer larger volumes of data over local WiFi. After leaving the depot, communication continues via the cellular network.
A single router can carry data from onboard systems, passenger ticketing, passenger information systems or CCTV equipment.
4G LTE Cat. 4 with Dual SIM
The AirWan-M12 cellular interface supports 4G LTE, UMTS/HSPA+ and GSM/GPRS/EDGE. Two nano SIM cards can help increase cellular connection availability.
WiFi 802.11n with Fast Roaming
AirWan-M12 includes one IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n MIMO 2T2R WiFi radio with a maximum radio rate of up to 300 Mbit/s. WiFi can operate in the 2.4 or 5 GHz band.
- WiFi Access Point
- WiFi client
- IEEE 802.11s Mesh
- Fast Roaming below 30 ms
- WMM QoS
- DFS and TPC for 5 GHz
- Adaptive Noise Immunity – ANI
2× Fast Ethernet M12 for onboard equipment
AirWan-M12 provides two 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet ports with M12 D-coded connectors. Rugged connectors are suitable for mobile applications exposed to vibration and mechanical stress.

FAKRA connectors compliant with ITxPT
AirWan-M12 uses 5 FAKRA connectors for its radio interfaces, in line with the ITxPT standard. This design simplifies integration into public transport vehicles.
4 radio connectors
2× FAKRA for WiFi and 2× FAKRA for LTE cellular communication.
1× FAKRA for positioning
Separate connector for an active GNSS antenna. GNSS supports GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou.
GNSS – vehicle positioning
The integrated multi-constellation GNSS receiver can provide vehicle position information using GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou.
An active GNSS antenna is required for GNSS operation.
