OPC Router is a software program that allows you to connect data from various industrial devices and IT/OT systems to each other. All this quickly, automatically and without programming knowledge. In addition, you can see all data flows in a clear visualization.
Collect data, connect systems, perform calculations, compare values and enter results into databases. You can do all this with OPC Router for PLC systems, OPC servers, printers, RFID readers, emails, Excel spreadsheets, databases, cloud systems, MQTT brokers, ERP systems SAP R3, SAP HANA, etc. For installation on a single computer you need a basic module and one or more plug-in modules.
OPC UA Server Plug-In
The OPC UA protocol is widely used in industrial communications. The OPC Router allows you to connect various IT and OT systems to it and exchange data between them. With the OPC UA Server plug-in installed, the OPC Router can act as OPC UA Server and provide data for other OPC UA systems.
In the OPC Router schema below, you can see many different devices and systems connected to the OPC Router, using the OPC Router for exchanging data between each other. These systems include, among others, Euromap, SAP/ERP, IIoT, databases, readers, printers, RFID and KEPServerEX. Any data can be stored in OPC Router's internal variables. This data is then available and accessible to other systems and can be read out by OPC UA clients. In other words, the OPC Router with the OPC UA Server plug-in installed can offer data to the outside world through the OPC UA protocol.
Providing database data via the OPC UA protocol
Imagine the following scenario. In the OPC Router, you have enabled the OPC UA Server and are storing data from a database in OPC Router's internal variables. You are also reading out this data using KEPServerEX's OPC UA Client driver. To check that you are reading this data from the OPC UA Server correctly, you utilise the OPC Quick Client.
Let us now explore this in more detail. Every 30 seconds data is automatically (1) read out from the database (2) and written to OPC Router's internal variables (3). On the arrows (4), you can see values of individual variables being transferred. In the graph (5), which acts as a monitoring and diagnostic tool, you can see several green dots. Each of them means that a connection has been triggered. If a problem occurs in any of the connections, the green dot turns red and an error is reported.
Using KEPServerEX's OPC connectivity (i.e. through its OPC UA Client driver) you have read out data from OPC Router's OPC UA Server and transferred it to KEPServerEX. In the picture below, you can see KEPServerEX's OPC Quick Client, through which you have checked that the data transfer works and that data from the OPC Router (i.e. from the database) has been read out successfully (6).

System requirements
Computer performance
OPC Router is a server application and needs to run on suitably equipped hardware. We recommend using at least the following components:
- Multi-core processor,
- at least 4 GB RAM,
- hard disk space (with RAID 5 technology).
Operating system
We recommend using Microsoft Windows Server operating systems (see below). Client operating systems (64-bit) can also be used for testing purposes.
- Windows Server 2008 x64
- Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
- Windows Server 2012 x64
- Windows Server 2012 R2 x64
- Windows Server 2016 x64
- Windows Server 2019 x64
- Windows 7 x64
- Windows 8 x64
- Windows 8.1 x64
- Windows 10 x64
- Windows 10 IoT x64
Available OPC servers
OPC servers in OPC Router are used to connect control systems and other devices over OPC UA, OPC DA 4.0, or OPC XML.
To connect an OPC server, you must purchase a Module OPC license.
Available database servers
Database servers must be installed separately and are not part of the OPC Router installation. The OPC Router supports the following database systems:
- MS SQL
- Oracle
- MySQL
- MS Access
- XMLdatabases accessible by ODBC
Plug-ins for connecting database systems are not part of the Basic license, but you need to purchase the appropriate plug-in separately.
SAP-Plug in
The SAP Plug-in supports SAP systems version 4.0b and higher. For functionality, you need to have the so-called
SAP Log-on pad installed on the server where the OPC Router is running.
The SAP Plug-in is licensed and is not part of the Basic license.
New features in the OPC Router 5.1 data hub
The new version of OPC Router 5 brings some big changes. The biggest change is the user interface, which brings the user more comfort when working with the program and the ability to work in Linux, macOS, etc. There are also new options for creating user accounts, improvements in application performance optimization and many other improvements.
