The gateway to the IoT and easy condition monitoring – all of it available in the cloud, via GSM/GPRS

The DATAEAGLE 7000 gateway series from the company Schildknecht enables you to easily connect your sensors, actuators, devices and machines to the cloud. It supports easy, real-time analysis of data from sensors and machines on your computer, tablet or mobile. Data transfer is fully encrypted and optimised (with regard to data usage). The 7000 series features the eSIM, so it can be deployed virtually anywhere if there is a mobile phone signal.

How to set it up

First, choose a suitable sensor / data source and the required input / interface.

The gateway itself only requires power supply. All the rest is integrated in it. The gateway is configured on Schildknecht's DATAEAGLE portal

The DATAEAGLE portal allows you to set the gateway, its inputs and outputs, serial interface as well as alarm / warning thresholds. If a value falls out of safe thresholds, an email or an SMS is sent to your device.

DATAEAGLE 7010 functionalities

The gateway features eight universal inputs, two serial interfaces, one input for the PT 100/1000 temperature sensor, two analogue outputs and six digital outputs, which can be configured as relays (high switching current) or optoswitches (high switching frequencies).

What deserves to be mentioned is that the universal inputs can operate in various digital and analogue modes – the 0–20 mA, 4–20 mA, 0–2 V and 0–10 V modes. The digital modes allow you to measure PWM and frequency and count days and pulses. The 7010 supports the RS485 interface (can be configured as a Modbus Master or a Modbus Slave), plus Modbus RTU and ASCII modes.

The 7010 specifications can be found in the Features tab.

The 7010 enables you to connect up to 3 extension modules to it

Each extension module features the same number of inputs and outputs as the 7010 gateway (but does not feature any serial interfaces).

The DATAEAGLE 7010 supports the following maximum configuration (1× 7010 gateway + 3× 7010 extension module):

  • 32× universal input
  • 24× relay (Every 3 relays are combined into a group with a joint root --> 8 relay groups = 8 different circuits.)
  • 8× analogue output
  • 4× PT 100/1000 temperature sensor
  • 1× RS232
  • 1× RS485

Cloud services allow for/support:

  • IoT gateway and IoT device management
  • Data storage in a database
  • Managing applications
  • Managing eSIM cards to obtain a summary of mobile phone service charges
  • Firmware updates (OTA)
  • User management
  • Alarm notifications via email, SMS or phone call
  • The Restful API interface to higher-level systems
  • A graphical, visualisation interface (web server)
  • Generating PDF reports

A practical use case: the 7010 deployed

A customer has discovered some problems in production that have been caused by decreased compressed air pressure. They need to start monitoring it and in the case of a pressure drop have a notification sent to them. Being an all-round device, the DATAEAGLE 7000 gateway is the perfect solution for this purpose. The customer only needs to connect the given pressure sensor to it and, through the DATAEAGLE portal, configure the respective input, plus graphs and alarms. Monitored pressure values can also be displayed in a table.
